The Jukkasjärvi Icehotel is Glacially Cold
TechnoGadget — December 20, 2005 — Art & Design
This literally cool hotel in Sweden's northern Lapland, the Jukkasjärvi Icehotel is constructed absolutely from ice and snow. Every year they use 66 million pounds of snow and 22 million pounds of clear ice for its structure. The temperature inside normally ranges between 16°F (-9°C) and 25°F (-4°C). If you chicken out, you can always mend to one of the nearby bungalows. Since electricity is a problem in the hotel all the buildings are linked by means of Symbol Technologies Spectrum24 wireless network. Activities like ordering drinks at the Absolut Icebar are done using PDA. The ephemeral Ice Church is connected to ICEHOTEL. Couples who wish to get married and already married couples can have their marriage blessed in the celestially beautiful ice chapel.
