In order to assist the elderly with dementia and Alzheimer’s, while letting them maintain their independence, China is distributing a unique technology for senior citizens. This technology takes the form of QR code buttons that are embedded with a senior's home information, so that should they wander too far from an area, someone is able to get them back to where they should be safely. The wearable buttons read: "Please scan and help me back home," making their purpose clear to others. As well as storing location info, the QR chips are also embedded with location like ID card numbers and important contact information.
The QR buttons are being distributed in the Dingxiang Community in Anhui Province, with plans to give them out to thousands of residents over the age of 60.
