Emirates' ecoTHREAD Blankets are Made of Recycled Plastic Bottles
Emirates, the famous luxury airline, recently introduced a new set of sheets called ecoTHREAD blankets for all of its long-haul flights. Without sacrificing the supple softness that its passengers expect, the new blankets are made out of 100 percent recycled plastic bottles.
The ecoTHREAD blankets, which are available in Economy Class, are each made from 28 recycled bottles. Through a patented technological innovation, these bottles get turned into a fine thread that is then woven together to create the warm blankets. This sustainable effort is part of a concerted push from Emirates to implement a green program. The airline already has on-board recycling for aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles and clean paper products (e.g. newspapers, magazines, and cardboard cartons).
