Substrate Factory Ayase is a two-storey community building in Kanagawa, Japan with removable walls that serve as a multipurpose space for the community.
The interior is made up of modular partitions, meaning it can be easily moved and rearranged to suit a multitude of activities. The adjustable walls, which are made from wood, slot into tracks on the ceiling and floorboards, allowing for rooms of varying sizes to be conceived. The wood and steel building components were carefully selected so it would fit in with the community's aesthetic, allowing for the center to seamlessly integrate and be accepted as a communal space.
