Remember your substitute teachers back in your school days? What if she had been a robot? If you're a kid in Japan, that could actually be a possibility.
Saya is a substitute teacher robot created by professor Hiroshi Kobayashi from the Tokyo University of Science. The fembot can speak like a human, and in this case has been programmed to instruct students. In addition to speaking multiple languages, Saya the humanoid is capable of exhibiting different facial expressions in order to communicate things like enthusiasm or disapproval. She can call out names and give orders, but hopefully new developments will let the synthetic skinned substitute teacher robot really add value to educational programs.
