Encouraging literacy in young kids can be a challenge, but by introducing the Stories in the Sky reading campaign from a perspective of fun, Instituto Pró-Livro makes it seem like less of a chore. The reading initiative in Brazil involved collaborating with a number of well-known Brazilian authors and artists to feature their words and illustrations on the fabric of 500 kites.
Since the availability of reading materials in rural communities is limited, kids usually read only what is assigned to them in school, or what is available to them at the local library. Reading books from these places is usually done begrudgingly, but Stories in the Sky evokes curiosity and literally has enjoyable reading material fall from the sky.
