SILO Creates the Steel Louise House in Charlotte
Amy Duong — February 22, 2024 — Art & Design
American design studio SILO creates the Steel Louise house located in North Carolina defined by its metal cladding. It is home to Marc Manack, an architecture professor and the founding principal of SILO. He and his wife were looking to build a new home in Charlotte's Uptown neighborhood of Belmont while honoring the location's heritage.
With the ever-changing environment of the neighborhood, various suburban homes were being built along with modest structures. The team at the studio explains "Our design opposes recent development that mimics suburban types. Steel Louise is a single-family, urban infill house that reckons with dramatic contradictions between its site's past and present, becoming a private house with a unique public persona."
