While the idea of the free clinic isn't necessarily new, a number of STD clinics in New York City will now offer anyone 12 and up to receive free access to STD/STI and HIV tests for free or at low-costs. A total of eight clinics are being involved in the new service expansion, which can be found across NYC in an effort to further increase the ability for residents to access affordable health care services.
This new initiative is part of the city's Plan to End the AIDS Epidemic that has dedicated $23-million in funding towards healthcare programs and prevention efforts. Aside from HIV testing, the eight STD clinics will enable clients to get tested for gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia in a bid to help increase early detection efforts.
