Researchers Unveils the Spiral Diopter with Various Focal Points

A team of researchers in France has developed a progressive new contact lens dubbed the Spiral Diopter which aids wearers with clear focus from near and far sights. This is offered through the unique shape of the lenses which creates various focal points.
These act as several lenses that are layered into one, made with inspiration from how light interacts with formed corneas. It has an optical vortex to allow light to focus at different distances. The team is led by Bertrand Simon of the Photonics, Numerical, and Nanosciences Laboratory -- he and the journal Optica showcase the Spiral Diopter that outperforms existing lenses. Simons explains, “For potential implant users or people with age-related farsightedness, it could provide consistently clear vision, potentially revolutionizing ophthalmology."
