Qualcomm, a California-based semiconductor company that has helped to establish 5G technologies, is set to launch a new 5G modem-RF system called the Snapdragon X65.
The technology is the first of its kind "to support 10 Gbps 5G speeds," which it plans to bring to the commercial market within the year. In addition to providing faster speeds, Snapdragon X65 would enable users to include more devices on their networks, resulting in smoother use for a greater number of people.
Durga Malladi, Qualcomm's SVP and GM of 4G/5G spoke to the development, stating "And now it’s 10 gigabits per second with 5G. You see a pattern here, we’re increasing the peak wireless data rates by 10-times every five years or so. We’ve created a product that can usher in an era in cellular that’s 100-times faster than early LTE and just about 5,000-times faster than 3G."
