The Smoky Park Supper Club is a restaurant, located in Asheville, North Carolina, that was built by 19 containers from shipping container construction form SG Blocks. The restaurant is the largest in the country to be built using shipping containers.
The containers first had to be stripped off their exterior coatings, before having fresh coatings applied and being prepared for installation. Installation took only three days, even though initial contact and design work began back in 2011. The restaurant is due to open this coming spring, with post-build work currently taking place.
The Smoky Park Supper Club is more than just a novelty architectural feat and is actually a sustainable venture, what with the use of shipping containers in construction helping save around 142,500 kWh of energy.
