This functional sloping roof is installed to cover a three-level house in Kerala, India, and also protect the structure from the region's weather— from heavy rain to strong sunlight. Because of its dramatic slope, the roof also adds an aesthetic element and "a distinctive appearance" to the House of Noufal.
The structure was designed by the Kanpur-based architectural studio 3dor Concepts. This project was commissioned by a frequent traveler who "wanted his family home to reflect his open mindset and curiosity." In order to achieve this in a seamless way, the architects focused on bringing together modern design sensibilities with traditional Kerala architecture. Aside from the sloping roof that makes the structure suitable for the wet environment of the region, the house also features a welcoming internal courtyard garden that can be also "opened up to the outdoors."
