Intel's Shooting Star Drones Will Perform a Fourth of July Display

Instead of utilizing traditional fireworks, a Fourth of July celebration at Travis Air Force Base, in Fairfield, California, will use 500 Intel Shooting Star drones. These drones previously performed at Disney World, the Super Bowl and the Olympics, and this latest performance will celebrate the holiday as well as the base's 75th anniversary. The Shooting Star drones will be performing a routine designed specifically for this event and will include a simulated fireworks display, custom-crafted imagery and preprogrammed aerial acrobatics.
The fleet of drones involved in the display will be controlled by a single person and leverages a sophisticated control platform. This unique platform pre-plans the route of each drone and according to Intel engineers, can be used to control an unlimited amount of drones.
