Hirsch Selected Whiskeys Unveils the Departure Whiskey
Hirsch Selected Whiskeys, which is under the umbrella of Hotaling & Co., has unveiled its first American Single Malt Whiskey — The Departure.
Distilled entirely at Hotaling & Co.’s original Potrero Hill facility in San Francisco, this limited-edition release is crafted from 100% Maris Otter malted barley, aged for over six years in new charred and toasted American oak barrels, and bottled at 49% ABV. Maris Otter malted barley, in particular, is known for its rich, malty character. To maintain the exclusivity of this milestone, Hirsch Selected Whiskeys has produced only 1,350 bottles for circulation.
The Departure represents a bold shift for the brand, which is traditionally known for its bourbons. The release coincides with the recent establishment of official regulations for American Single Malt Whiskey, which is a rapidly growing category in the spirits industry.
