Utah-based company Sego Innovations is developing a brand new potable solar panel charger that is inspired by the movements of origami. The panels are able to be folded up similar to the Japanese art in order to comfortable fit into backpacks and be brought around on trips outdoors.
It relies on a renewable power system and weighs about 3 pounds in total, making it easy to bring and set up anywhere. The unique foldable design also ensures that it can fit into move bags or even under the seat of a car. The prototype depends on SunPower monocrystalline sole cells and offers about 25 watts of charging under prime conditions. When it is fully open, the solar gadget has a total surface area of 2.56 square feet.
