McDonald's Japan's Spring Menu Included a New Sakura-Flavored Drink

This past spring, McDonald's Japan introduced a new Sakura-flavored drink and plum-flavored seasoning packets for its fries. Over the years, McDonald's has created a number of specialty dishes for countries such as Japan. The most recent menu additions cater to regional taste preferences with exotic flavors such as cherry blossom and umeboshi pickled plum.

McDonald's Japan's seasonal promotion was dubbed the 'Spring Set' and it consisted of two limited edition items. The first was the Sakura Cherry McFizz, which was a carbonated drink meant to taste like cherry blossoms. The second limited-edition dish was the Ume fries, which consisted of McDonald's regular French fries accompanied by a packet of pickled plum-flavored seasoning.

While the Sakura-flavored drink is unlikely to find its way to North American menus, the unique menu addition demonstrates how international brands such as McDonald's can tailor their menu to appeal to regional taste preferences.
