The work of Rebecca Artemisa is utterly exquisite. In fact, each piece has an exotic undertone which is due entirely to her intricate detail. As though embracing a bit of a Native American style, her work depicts fantastical places and situations that could easily be told as mythical stories to children and adults a like.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Rebecca Artemisa chooses to paint on upcycled wood that have been stained with blackberries and ink. Although the world she depicts is often whimsical and surreal, they stem from nature-inspired scenarios that are still relatable on a variety of levels. My Modern Met writes, "The circle of life is explored as spirits live alongside humans. A common motif in Aretmisa’s paintings are figures that hover above the living, and it appears that heaven isn’t that far away."
