Showcased in Madrid's La Latina district, the 'Public Swimming Pool on a Background of a Field of Barley' art installation was created by Luzinterruptus. This powerful art piece uses black-lit elements to mimic an above-ground swimming pool.
The surreal sculpture is displayed at night, appearing to glow and resembling the iridescent water of a pool. Constructed from 2000 transparent containers and 800 drinking glasses, this black-lit sculptural piece is filled with transparent blue liquid.
Protesting against the privatization of public space, the Public Swimming Pool on a Background of a Field of Barley installation celebrates the pool that once occupied the Plaza de la Cebada site. After its 2008 demolition, the local pool was not rebuilt despite of the local governments promises for a replacement.
