NYC's PS 244's Students are Thriving on Healthy Vegetable-Based Meals

PS 244 is the first public school in the United States to serve only vegetarian meals during lunch -- and the program is thriving. Although it was a tough transition, it is proving to be a fruitful one -- pun intended -- in order to improve the health and well-being of its students.
Since proper nutrition is a constant battle in the States, it should come as no surprise that at least one school would attempt to make a significant change. PS 244 is that school. Robert Groff, co-founder and principle of PS 244, lost both of his grandfathers to heart attacks when they were in their 50s. He decided to create an educational experience based around the fact that health and wellness is closely tied to academic performance. PS 244 is the result.
