Selldorf Architects Have Designed the One Domino Square Project
Kalin Ned — August 25, 2023 — Art & Design
A pair of porcelain-clad skyscrapers are being built at the Domino Sugar Refinery redevelopment site on the Brooklyn waterfront. A notable addition to the landscape, the structures were designed by Selldorf Architects. The project, known as the One Domino Square, showcases the fusion of design innovation, urban planning, and sustainable considerations.
Because of their height and aesthetic, the porcelain-clad skyscrapers certainly deliver a prominent and eye-catching presence on the East River waterfront. While one is 550 feet in height, the other is 450. The towers are connected by a shared podium. Selldorf Architects carefully and strategically selected material for the podium—granite with acid-etched glass spandrels—that will contrast with the iridescent porcelain tile that envelops the rest of the skyscrapers' facade.
