NBD is a photobook, released by the charismatic and highly elusive graffiti artist Swampy, the title of which is shorthand for the word 'Northbound'.
The title makes a reference to a journey that the photographer, who was born and raised on the Californian coast, took five years ago across the United States. The 132-page photobook includes an array of photographs that Swampy took during his year-long journey from Mexico to Alaska whilst illegally riding atop freight trains.
The photobook depicts the adrenaline and sense of escape and rebellion that comes with riding on top of freight trains. The photos show that this kind of activity, whilst illegal and unsafe, gives you a unique perspective on your surroundings.
