100architects implements a new iteration of traditional phone booths in Shanghai, incorporating it with digital elements that are much more than making calls. It takes on the traditional design language of a phone booth with a bright red palette, a sloped roof on top, and a boxy structure.
However, there are much more functionalities including the solar panel roof. The kiosks are entirely digital including Wi-Fi hotspots that are accessible when visitors are near the booth. Users are also able to charge their own devices and receive USB connectivity as well as 5G transceivers. For those that are new to the city, there are also city maps available on the touchscreen with the addition of accessing taxi services too.
