This Personal Hearing System Enables the Hearing-Impaired to Hear Movies

Researchers at Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology have developed a technology, aptly dubbed Personal Hearing, that enables people with limited hearing to better understand movies and plays. The system works by streaming audio from the screen or the stage to the user's smartphone.
The Personal Hearing technology is used in conjunction with two apps, Cinema Connect and Mobile Connect, both offered by Sennheiser Streaming Technologies.
In both apps, users can control the volume by dragging an onscreen dot up or down. They can also adjust the softness or deepness of the sound by dragging the dot to the left or right. This way they can manually adjust the audio characteristics as required.
This product is only the latest in a long line of Fraunhofer inventions that truly use modern technology to improve people's lives.
