The Patagonia R1 wet suit swaps out traditional woolen materials used in apparel designed for cold water sports in favor of a recycled polyester blend that is specifically engineered for warmer climates.
While the usual blend of materials found in most surf gear is ideal for chilly aquatic conditions, anyone that rides waves in places like California, Hawaii and Australia does not have the same insulation needs that are catered to in traditional apparel.
The company teamed up with a Japanese designer to create a blend of fabric that has traditionally never been used in clothing before. The blend features 100% recycled materials on its exterior and 50% on the inner lining and is more flexible and lightweight than other wetsuits for those who surf in sunny, lukewarm waves.
