Own Your Own Boda (OYOB) is a for-profit social enterprise that serves the motorcycle taxi industry in Uganda. "Boda" in the venture's name references the name of the bicycle and motorcycle taxis that originated in East Africa and are referred to as boda-bodas.
As most boda-boda drivers rent their motorcycles indefinitely, OYOB loans out new motorcycles accompanied by affordable weekly payments at a rate only slightly higher than the market rental rate. OYOB hopes to enable drivers to gain ownership of their vehicles, something that is rare right now in Uganda. By gaining ownership of their operating capital, drivers can focus on longer term financial outlook and the opportunity to build savings.
