The Nintendo 2DS was recently announced as a new portable gaming system that is very similar to the Nintendo 3DS, minus its 3D capabilities. Aside from its inability to view in 3D, the system does not fold in half compactly like the 3DS, but it still features dual screens and will be able to play all of the 3DS games.
It is rare for technological devices to go backwards in terms of number sequence and take away features as opposed to adding them. However the introduction of the Nintendo 2DS is meant to help sales, as it was simultaneously announced that the Wii U would be reduced in price.
As extra incentive, this portable gaming device will be offered at a price significantly lower than the 3DS model.
