London-based illustrator Nicola Delvigo explains on his Beyonce page that his work of late has been focused on women, strangers or those familiar to him. Looking at these lip illustrations, it is not difficult to understand his inspiration. The lush red of lipstick contrasting with pearly white teeth that occasionally bite firmly, but tenderly on a cherry, necklace or the lips themselves convey an undeniable sultriness. One wouldn't be surprised to find these illustrations as the central feature of a lipstick ad.
The white background Delvigo sets his subjects against helps to emphasize them. The viewer is not distracted by anything within the frame, and so is encouraged to stare at the slightly curled, subtly expressive lips.
