'NextCity' is a new app prototype that makes it easier for urban commuters to get around by showing them the fastest way to their destination. While many cities have apps for their subway system, bus lines and other forms of transport, these apps are often separate from one another. This new app would take all forms of urban transport into consideration in order to help users navigate more efficiently.
The NextCity app is a project initiated by the Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS). The app is designed to provide a single platform for information and payment for all modes of city transport. In addition to showing users the fastest route to work, the app would also help to reduce congestion by offering users reduced fares for alternate modes of transport. Over time, these incentives are designed to change transportation habits and eventually reduce citywide congestion.
While the app is currently just a prototype, the platform demonstrates how companies can go beyond simply providing transportation information to solve more pressing urban issues.
