This Work by John Beck Challenges Traditional Furniture Designs
Meghan Young — September 5, 2011 — Art & Design
This new work by John Beck challenge the idea of traditional pieces of furniture. Although each piece seems rather classically designed at first glance, the longer you look, the more you realize how unique each one really is. With a rather dark edge, his latest design is a subtle departure from his previous creations.
From lighting to tables and stools, the new work by John Beck explores ways to introduce new elements into home decor and furnishings. His Big Pete Light appears to be a simple cylinder of steel until you note the brass skull detail that dangles from its center. The Chalkboard Pendant Lamp is quite self-explanatory, bringing a bit of schoolhouse chic into one's living space. Finally, the Raw Steel Tables sport a strong industrial look that has been tempered by a minimalist aesthetic.
