Artist Pedro Reyes, pays homage to the lost lives in the city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, by re-imagining the purpose of the same violent weapons that took the lives of 80,000 in Mexico over the last six years.
Pedro Reyes used the metal of 6700 weapons to create a set of 50 musical instruments for project imagine. Reyes repurposing of these weapons gave them a second chance as a tool of life instead of death. These instruments represent victims of gun violence, and inspire hauntingly beautiful music that narrate the story of the lost lives of the victims.
Reyes uses his instruments to illustrate the power of a world that does not need to rely on weapons for peace, but relies on the imaganation. “Many liberties that we enjoy today were once considered utopian, and the first step taken into that direction was to Imagine."
