Ching Cheng Chang and Xu Da Zzan design the new Mua Lau lounge chair, which is a perfect blend of modern and traditional elements. The silhouette has a contemporary look with its low shape and curvaceous themes but it also uses traditional materials including rattan.
The use of rattan is held together by bent metal piping to add a strong structure as the foundation. Notably, Mua Lau uses rattan as a placement for foam and cotton, when it is usually used as a fabric material. The bolsters that are incorporated create a springy feel with 12 bamboo stripes intricately woven into the small cylinders in order to provide compressive strength and bend when sat on.
