A series of modular partitions promise to offer privacy in the temporary emergency shelters, offered to Ukrainians who have fled their country in search of safety. The modular partitions are installed across temporary shelters in Europe by award-winning architect Shigeru Ban, in collaboration with the Voluntary Architects' Network non-governmental organization (an NGO which he founded in 1995).
Shigeru Ban's modular partition design is also known officially as the Paper Partition System (PPS). The structure is useful for emergency situations—such as the current conflict unfolding in Ukraine—because it can be constructed quickly and easily with cardboard tubes as infrastructural support and textiles which act as partitions. The building time for one unit is approximately five minutes. One modular partition can bring privacy and comfort in hectic environments for up to three people.
