This Modern Office Features Cantilevered Volumes
Vasiliki Marapas — August 18, 2014 — Art & Design
CAAN Architecten designed the modern office for property developer Hectaar in Roeselare, Belgium. The design is characterized by boxy volumes clad in steel. Each box is oriented in a different direction, offering a more comprehensive view.
The architects decided on the stacked design in order to help the structure stand out amongst the diverse architecture of the area. The arrangement is also helpful to the building's position on a busy crossroad; the cantilevered volumes allow the structure to relate to the perpendicular roads without disrupting its exterior continuity.
The first floor hovers two meters in front of the main entrance, which leads to the main meeting room, kitchen and storage unit. The second-storey volume gives the structure a similar height to the surrounding buildings.
