Comcast tested modem technology with gigabit upload speeds over cable. The test was conducted in Jacksonville, where the modem technology made it possible to hid speeds of 1.25Gbps up and down. The new speed is made possible through Distributed Access Architecture, or DAA, which combines digital fibre optics and remote PHY digital nodes, as well as cloud based modem termination platform.
The test will help Comcast reach its goal of creating a 10G platform, with speeds of 10Gbps or more.
“The great strength of our network technology is that we will have the ability to scale these next-generation speeds to tens of millions of homes in the future without digging up yards, or starting massive construction projects,” said Tony Werner, a Comcast executive.
