Meeting Bowls Encourage Spontaneous Dialogue Among New Yorkers
Meghan Young — August 20, 2011 — Art & Design
New York's Times Square is getting quite the reputation for its unique art installation, the latest being these Meeting Bowls. Not only do these spontaneous street structures support artistic endeavors, they also bring together one of the biggest and most densely populated metropolitans on earth. The Meeting Bowls in particular foster intimate dialogues and interactions between friends, fellow New Yorkers and tourists.
Created by Madrid-based studio mmmm… in collaboration with Times Square Alliance, the Meeting Bowls are made out of CNC cut fiber board; they create a private space without actually blocking out city sights in the process. Participants have the option of recording their conversations on their phones and then uploading it on the project website, which is accessed by a QR code.
