Duravit Develops a Toilet Concept for People Living on Mars
Bathroom company Duravit has designed a Martian toilet to go with the Golden Martian House, an inflated prototype for a dwelling on Mars that was designed by UK studios Hugh Broughton Architects and Pearce+.
In designing the Martian toilet, the team of Duravit focused on simplifying the design and assuring that it is comfortable for people to use. This comes from a concern that "everyday life on Mars will be challenging and fairly arduous" and so, people will need everyday items to be as easy to use as possible.
While the Martian toilet bears resemblance to toilets that we use on Earth, the research team at Duravit included rear wash and lady wash options. The piece is designed to work with small amounts of water, to keep urine as fertilize, and treat wastewater for future reuse.
