Makelab has teamed up with HERObike to make a skateboard that is both workable and eco-friendly. The two have collaborated before on a bamboo bike, so thought it would be a good idea to use this previous research and create another sporting product.
The skateboard "uses the strength and vertical compliance of the plant, strengthened and stiffened in key areas with fiberglass and carbon fiber to make a deck that is fun, responsive, and visually appealing," as stated on DesignBoom. One great detail about this skateboard is that although it is made from bamboo, it's completely functional so that skates can still do tricks and cruise through the streets in style.
Because the bamboo material is the main item used here, there is a weaving effect on both the top and bottom of the skateboard.
