Contactless EMV solutions company Littlepay has announced that its transit payment platform will be used on the Sacramento Regional Transit District’s (SacRT) light rail network. The new platform will be rolled out in partnership with CalSTA’s and Caltrans 'California Integrated Travel Project' (Cal-ITP) in an effort to make travel experiences more efficient within the state.
This "tap and ride" system utilizes a modular API-based payment platform that can be integrated into already-existing transit infrastructure. In addition to prepaid cards, SacRT riders will also have the option to tap with their credit and debit cards, making the process of taking public transport both more accessible and flexible. “These devices allow someone to use the same form of payment for their light rail ride and their coffee, simply tap and ride," explains Henry Li, the General Manager/CEO of SacRT.
