'Lightyear,' the Dutch electric vehicle manufacturer, revealed the 'Lightyear 0,' a long-range, futuristic solar-powered vehicle. The car itself charges at a rate of 1.05 kw when utilizing its rooftop solar panels while parked or driving. Assuming the driver does not exclusively use their car at night, Lightyear estimates that the Lightyear 0 can be driven for weeks or even months without running out of battery.
The rate at which the Lightyear 0 consumes its battery is at approximately 6.2 miles per kilowatt-hour, meaning a 60-mile trip only eats away roughly 8.5 kilowatts from the battery, which can be recharged in approximately ten hours. In environments with sufficient sunlight, the car will lose its battery incredibly slowly, even while driving.
The Lightyear 0 has an MSRP of $159,000 USD, though the automaker has not yet confirmed what countries the car will be available in.
