This Kristiina Lahde art is made up of hundreds of retro measuring tapes which have been woven and interlocked to create this mesmerizing geometric pattern. The aquamarine work, entitled 'Metric System,' was created by Canadian artist Kristiina Lahde and turns a dull, traditional item into something all together more modern and compelling.
In the series, the artist recreates tools which are originally used for measurement and "transforms them into perverse geometric constructions." The results are these stunning cross-hatched creations that trick and play with the viewers eye, like the optical illusion work of pop artist Bridget Riley in the 1960s. These artworks are an interesting way of re-purposing something which is considered a dull household item.
