The Krauter Garten is an exceptionally innovative vertical farm, manufactured by INFARM and installed at a Metro Cash & Carry location in Germany, that is designed to make it possible to actually grow produce in-store.
The contraption is capable of producing delicious and nutritious vegetables and herbs whilst using 70 per cent less fertilizers and 90 per cent less water than conventional farming methods. The vertical farm installation only takes up five square meters of room, enabling it to take up minimum floor area in the store.
"We believe our food system should be de-centralize and production should get closer to the consumer," says INFARM's CEO Erez Galonska. "This is essential in terms of the impact on the environment as well as for significantly improving the safety and quality of our food."
