The kendama is a traditional Japanese cup-and-ball toy that recently got a high-tech makeover thanks to the KDDI Mugen Labo program.
The next-generation kendama has been renamed the 'Dendama' and is equipped with Internet of Things connectivity. The electric toy features internal sensors and Bluetooth connectivity that syncs to a smartphone during gameplay. When the device is used alongside the accompanying app, it allows two players to compete with one another from anywhere across the world. When certain offensive moves are made using this toy, even from afar, an opponent's toy will shake as if it's taken a hit.
The Dendama is currently part of a crowdfunding campaign that hopes to introduce it into gaming tournaments, bars and nursing homes.
