Ahmed Nimali, a Toronto native with a keen sense of business and a nose for opportunity, is the founder of a new KYD NFT event series. The new project is dedicated to "connecting technologists, creatives, and web3 creators informally over drinks, good music, and great art."
To date, Keep Your Distance (KYD) has had two successful NFT series in Canada and the UK, and the revolutionary brand is tackling the U.S. next. The brand recently announced the launch of its first Sailormoon-themed NFT gallery and mixer in LA.
Having ample experience working at both Live Nation/Ticketmaster and VividSeats building primary and secondary live event ticket and streaming technology), Nimali had intricate knowledge of what was necessary to create a successful live event ticketing platform. Nimali found that "live events are extremely predatory to consumers and performers based on the fee structure."
As a result, Keep Your Distance was born; a web3 ticketing site that allows people to RSVP by using their mobile phones. Guests who RSVP will receive an email/SMS confirmation as well as an NFT ticket in their wallet that will serve as proof of their purchase at the event. Keep Your Distance created a check-in system dubbed ‘Project Lizard Wizard’ that scans a wallet’s QR code to verify the NFT ticket.
According to the brand, "by issuing tickets to an event as an NFT the ability to prove and transfer ownership in resale becomes much easier and transparent." Thus, it is impossible for mega resellers to bulk purchase tickets and hyper-inflate prices.
The first KYD NFT event series -- the Sailormoon-themed NFT event -- will take place on February 17th, 2022 at 12 pm in West Hollywood, California. Guests can purchase their tickets online via crypto wallet, however, the guest list is capped at 200 tickets.
Interestingly, five tickets are "rare variants" that are randomly distributed and include a gift of 0.1 ETH that will be transferred to the holder at the time of the event.
