Engineers and designers have been working to fine-tune the concept of the pill dispenser for years, and a great deal of problems have now been solved in the form of the Karie Personal Medication Dispenser. With the availability of a wide variety of different solutions to such a product, Cortex Design was able to study what was and wasn't working for users, in order to inform the development of Karie.
The final product comprises a loaded cartridge of multi-dose sachets that's prepared by the pharmacist and delivered to the outpatient. This can be easily clipped into the touchscreen apparatus, which acts as an interactive terminal between the user and his or her pills. Integrated into Karie is a smart scheduling and dispensing system that notifies the user of the time to take certain meds, provides them, and sends alerts to patients or caregivers if a dose should be missed.
