The Kampala Houses are located in Uganda. Architect Marc Thorpe designed the series of houses to include eco-friendly construction material. To accomplish this, the Kampala Houses are made from local soil, which is compacted into bio-bricks.
The houses are scheduled for completion this spring 2022. March Thorpe and social housing company Echale and Stage Six are working to create sustainable and accessible housing for the Ugandan community. In addition to the bio-bricks, the houses feature solar-paneled roofs to provide their dwellers with a sustainable energy source. The initial project includes 10 houses of the same size, located outside of Kampala, Uganda's capital city. The partners on the project hope to expand the initiative in other regions of the country once the first stage is complete.
