Kagiso Trust and Sasol Foundation have launched a joint initiative called the Kagiso-Sasol-Project (KASA) to promote the importance of vocational education in South Africa. The collaboration aims to address misconceptions about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and highlight the value of vocational education in the country. Despite a skills shortage, there is reluctance among students to enroll in TVET institutions due to beliefs that TVET graduates have lower employability and that attending a university is the only path to well-paying jobs.
KASA is working to debunk these misconceptions and transform ordinary schools into technical schools of excellence, while also providing interventions to help educators deliver quality vocational education. The project has already transformed seven schools and produced vocational-occupation textbooks. It also hosts conferences to engage stakeholders in discussions about the state of vocational training and potential solutions. The partnership between Kagiso Trust and Sasol Foundation is considered pivotal to achieving the government's National Development Plan of producing more artisans, technicians, and technologists by 2030.
