NASA's Journey to Mars Challenge is Seeking Technology Solutions
Rahul Kalvapalle — May 13, 2015 — Tech
NASA has launched the Journey to Mars initiative, a public challenge with the aim of innovating technologies that could one day prove to be vital for the establishment of a human colony on Mars. NASA is asking the public to put forward ideas for Mars surface systems or capabilities that will help maintain a continuous human presence on the Red Planet.
The submissions can range in area from food and shelter to exercise and so on, but must be geared towards helping maintain a sustainable human community on Mars whilst minimizing reliance on supply runs back to Earth. The proposals must also include suggested programs of testing, development, operation and implementation.
While NASA has plenty of its expertise among its ranks, the Journey to Mars project will ensure that the brightest minds in the public will also be able to contribute towards the shared dream of colonizing Mars.
