Australian design studio Koichi Takada Architects designs the new Kiwan restaurant interiors and draw inspiration from Qatar's pearl-diving history. It is detailed with over four million Swarovski crystals that come down from the ceiling to resemble the look of the northern lights.
The studio founder Koichi Takada talks about the design to Dezeen, stating that "The palette of materials that we drew from was very much about paying homage to the unique Qatari landscape – where the desert meets the sea – as well as the iconic architecture. We chose a mirrored finish for the ceiling to draw the reflection of the Persian Gulf deep into the space, as well as to reflect the gentle movement of the four million Swarovski crystals that dance from the ceiling."
