The JCPenney VR Santa experience is a unique in-store marketing effort that succeeded in driving face-to-face traffic over the holiday season. The immersive event saw Santa's visitors simply place on a helmet to be transported to a distant whimsical landscape. JCPenney worked with the Reel FX VR division to create the immersive holiday experience.

Available in select JCPenney locations in malls across the United States, the JCPenney VR Santa experience made use of Facebook's Oculus Rift headset and system, while the immersive reality was entitled 'Twas the Flight Before Christmas,' suggesting the festive visions involved the simulation of flight, a highlight of the technology.

At the conclusion of the JCPenney VR Santa experience, consumers were given coupons that encouraged them to make use of the department store's gift wrapping services.
