In honor of International Literacy Day 2016, A Chapters Indigo Bookstore in Pointe-Claire, Québec, is using the sale of books to support a wider literacy initiative.
International Literacy Day is a UNESCO holiday celebrated on September 8th each year. The day was originally established as a way to shed light on the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. This year, one Chapters Indigo location is celebrating the day by encouraging consumers to come in and purchase a new book. The company will then donate 20 percent of sales to an organization called Literacy Unlimited, which helps empower adults through improved literacy.
The event not only raises awareness about the importance of reading for people of all ages, but it also help raise funds to promote literacy in the local community.
